ProZ.com Certified PRO: when recognition follows consistent work

by | Aug 4, 2026

Professional recognition is always rewarding, but some milestones carry a particular meaning because of what they represent rather than the badge itself.

I am delighted to share that I have officially been accepted into the ProZ.com Certified PRO Network.

For those unfamiliar with ProZ.com, it is one of the world’s largest professional platforms for translators and language professionals. The Certified PRO Network is not simply a membership badge. It is a recognition awarded to translators who meet a demanding set of professional criteria relating to translation competence, professional reliability and online reputation.

This recognition is built upon much more than a translation test.

It also considers elements such as professional references, project history, client feedback, peer reviews, recommendation letters and evidence of consistent professional conduct within the translation industry.

A certification is not what makes someone a professional

One thought stayed with me throughout this process.

Whether this recognition arrived today or six months from now, I would have continued doing exactly the same thing.

I would have continued studying.

I would have continued accepting challenging projects.

I would have continued investing in professional development, CAT tools, terminology management, audiovisual translation, legal translation, localisation and continuous learning.

Because that is what professional translators do.

A certification does not create professionalism. It acknowledges work that has already been done.

Building evidence, one project at a time

Looking back over the past year, I realise that I was not simply waiting for a decision.

Instead, I kept building my professional portfolio.

During this period, I had the privilege of working with new agencies, expanding my project history, receiving additional client feedback, participating in ProZ Pro Bono humanitarian translation projects, obtaining recommendation letters, and continuing to develop specialised expertise across several translation fields.

Each project became another opportunity to improve.

Each client trusted me with another piece of their communication.

Each positive review became another reminder that consistency matters.

When viewed individually, none of these achievements seems extraordinary.

Together, however, they tell the story of steady professional growth.

Recognition also brings responsibility

Receiving the Certified PRO status is certainly a moment of pride.

At the same time, it also represents an additional responsibility.

Clients who see this certification rightly expect accuracy, professionalism, confidentiality, careful research and reliable communication.

Those expectations are exactly the standards I already strive to uphold in every project, whether it involves legal translation, audiovisual localisation, technical documentation, AI linguistic evaluation or marketing content.

The certification reinforces that commitment.

Looking ahead

Professional development never really ends.

For that reason, my next goal is already clear.

Having now obtained Certified PRO status for one language pair, I intend to submit a new application for certification in English → European Portuguese (EN → PT-PT) as I continue expanding my professional portfolio and specialisation.

Every new project remains an opportunity to learn something new, refine my skills and deliver translations that clients can trust.

And perhaps that is the most satisfying part of this achievement.

The badge is visible.

The real work continues.
